Nintendo will launch a redesigned version of the Wii in time for Christmas.

The new-look Wii will be sold in a bundle with mini-game collections Wii Party and Wii Sports, reports ONM.

Gamers will also get the new Wii Remote Plus controller and a Nunchuck.

The console's facelift will allow the device to better sit horizontally rather than vertically.

It's the first redesign for the Wii since the console's launch in 2006, although various coloured versions have been issued.

We'll update when we get first pictures of the new hardware.

I've read rumours that it won't be backwards compatible with GC so... that'll be the redesign.... maybe.... yeah...

Yeah it appears they've scrapped the GameCube functionality (controller ports / memory card) so presumably allowed them to slim the console down a little bit more.

I don't know they they're doing this seeing whoever wanted the Wii probably already owns one (and doesn't use it...) especially seeing as they've announced it's successor.

Sure Microsoft and Sony have redesigned their current platforms - but not at a time when they have a new console already announced and previewed with less than a year to it's release.

Anything from Nintendo to drum up the poor sales as of late. Seems a bit desperate to me.
